The injection mold market has seen a huge interest in molding with aluminum lately. The interest is generated from the savings in the molds and more importantly from the savings in the piece part cost due to the 20 to 40% decrease in cycle time. There is much to be learned when it comes to using aluminum for tooling but it can be accomplished. Schmit Prototypes has been a company that has had the innovation and knowledge to accomplish what many are trying to achieve in the current business climate. They have done things with aluminum tooling that many say can’t be done. I feel that their knowledge of the benefits of aluminum for tooling will help them not only in this depressed market but as the plastics industry moves forward in the next decade.
